INTEGRAL DSL is a clean, modern and lightweight — yet fully featured and versatile programming language. It supports classes and inheritance, functions, control structures, automatic memory management, operator overloading and more. INTEGRAL DSL is similar to C/C++/Java in syntax but has a much more dynamic nature. With INTEGRAL DSL you can create and publish documents, build all kinds of electronic publishing services, websites and web applications and serve dynamic content over the Internet.

Fonts, layout, line and page breaks look precisely the same on all platforms and devices.

INTEGRAL engine ensures that your publications look precisely the same on any hardware, platform, web browser and operating system. Whether you intend to display your publications on the screen, print or export them to PDF or SVG, the results are always identical. This is unlike some other technologies where the display, layout, line and page breaks depend on the operating system, device, installed fonts, printer driver etc. With INTEGRAL you are in control.

International Typography

Publish in any world's language, support complex scripts and writing systems.

International typography is a first class citizen in INTEGRAL. The engine supports both simple and complex writing systems — Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, Bengali, Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Han, Hebrew, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Tamil, Telugu and Thai — just to name a few. You can display and mix left-to-right and right-to-left scripts anywhere in your document (even in math formulas!) and take advantage of hyphenation dictionaries for many of the world's languages.

INTEGRAL provides rich and extensive font support with advanced text formatting features. While the engine comes with a suite of high-quality fonts suitable for scientific, technical and educational applications, you can also use supply your own TrueType, OpenType, Type 1, Type 3, bare CFF and D-Type fonts and use them anywhere in your documents. INTEGRAL supports variable and multiple-master font technology, advanced font/text effects, 2D transformations, precise character positioning and much more.

Flexible Layouts

Create page layouts, columns and text flows precisely the way you want.

INTEGRAL engine makes it very easy to create custom page layouts. You can establish your own page columns and define how text flows from one page to another. INTEGRAL gives you the kind of layout you see in newspapers, books, magazines and other professional publications.

User Defined Text Styles

Define your own logical and visual styles, and use them to easily format text.

User defined text styles allow you to control text formatting in your publication from a single central location. Using INTEGRAL DSL you can easily establish your publication's standard styles or redefine them when needed. A rich selection of built-in text formatting parameters allow you to precisely define how your styles will operate. You can even define contextual styles that operate based on what section of your publication they appear in. For example, a style called Emphasis could be defined to embolden text in your publication's articles but underline it in the table of contents.

Tables

Easily create professionally looking tables and use them anywhere in your document.

Using INTEGRAL DSL it's easy to make tables. The operator / makes a new table cell, while the operator % makes a new table row. Can't get simpler than that.

Images

Load high-resolution photos, charts and illustrations into your document.

Using INTEGRAL DSL you can easily insert images in PNG, JPEG or BMP format into your publications. Loading high-resolution images will not slow down your publication's build process. Of course, you can always lower image resolution during export to reduce your publication's size and/or download time.

Math Typesetting And Formulas

Use INTEGRAL DSL to typeset complex mathematical equations in seconds.

INTEGRAL DSL is very suitable for typesetting math. Mathematical expressions in INTEGRAL DSL are not difficult to read and write, yet they are significantly more compact than equivalent MathML expressions. The most important thing — they display and print precisely the same way on any hardware, platform, web browser and operating system.

Automatic Tables of Contents

Easily generate automatic tables of contents and format them any way you like.

INTEGRAL DSL can generate tables of contents automatically based on your publication's headings. You retain full control over the presentation, layout, text formatting, display depth and other visual aspects of your table of contents. You can insert full or partial tables of contents anywhere in your publication.

Virtual Copies

Clone objects in your document as many times as you wish — memory not needed!

Have a high-resolution image or a complex object that you'd like to use many times in the same publication? No problem — by taking advantage of INTEGRAL's virtual copy function, you can clone any object as many times as needed. This will have minimal impact on your application's memory footprint. Best of all, when one copy is updated, all other copies are instantly updated as well.

Build Accelerator

Build fast. A small change in a large document will not trigger a full rebuild.

Large and complex publications will benefit from INTEGRAL's compound document architecture. A typical compound document consist of many content units. By default, all units in a compound publication are independently cached on disk. As a result, when one unit is updated, other units do not have to be regenerated. This significantly reduces your publication's build time.

Document Editor

Preview, modify or print your documents before they are published.

Document Editor is a tool that allows you to view, modify and print existing INTEGRAL publications. In fact, any time you initiate a build of your INTEGRAL publication, Document Editor is launched to show you the result. Document Editor can also be used to export INTEGRAL publications to other formats, such as PDF, SVG, EPS, PNG or JPEG.

Font Viewer

View and inspect fonts in your documents. Access any character you need.

Font Viewer is a useful utility that lets you view and inspect fonts. Using this tool you can easily access any glyph or Unicode character codepoint in your font and view their vector outlines.

C/C++ Connector

A library for C/C++ programmers wishing to use INTEGRAL in their applications.

C/C++ Connector^* is a shared library for Windows, macOS and Linux that allows developers to interpret INTEGRAL DSL directly from their own C/C++ applications. The library features a simple and easy to use API, so it takes little effort to get your INTEGRAL code running. What you do with it is entirely up to you!

PDF Exporter

Export your documents in industry-standard PDF format.

Once you have created your INTEGRAL publication, it takes one line of INTEGRAL DSL code to export it to PDF. Now anyone in the world can see and print your publication the way you intended.

SVG Exporter

Export your documents as highly optimized and Web-ready SVG files.

INTEGRAL publications can also be exported as compact SVG documents that work in any web browser. Great for exporting entire publications or just specific objects, such as math formulas, charts and illustrations.

Bitmap Exporter

Export your documents as optimized bitmap images in PNG, JPEG, GIF or BMP format.

INTEGRAL publications can also be exported as PNG, JPEG, GIF or BMP images. This is very useful for generating document thumbnails and quick page previews.

INTEGRAL Publishing

Serve INTEGRAL websites and publish INTEGRAL documents on the Web.

INTEGRAL Server allows you to easily serve INTEGRAL publications over the Internet and build INTEGRAL powered websites, web publishing services, and web applications. A configurable INTEGRAL Worker Pool makes it possible to fine tune the performance of your server based on the expected workload and number of available CPUs.

Multiple Sites

Set up as many websites as you wish using a single INTEGRAL Web Server instance.

Using a single INTEGRAL Web Server you can serve many websites^* from the same machine. Each website has a unique binding and its own configuration settings. This allows service providers to support many independent clients on the same server and/or use one server for many different applications.

^*Standard Edition is limited to 3 and Professional Edition to 150 websites per server. Unlimited Edition has a theoretical limit of 65,535 websites per server. See INTEGRAL Editions for details.

Parallel Processing

A configurable thread and process pool to serve thousands of simultaneous requests.

INTEGRAL Server is a high performance web and application server. You can configure the number of WWW worker threads to handle concurrent web requests and the number of INTEGRAL processes to execute INTEGRAL DSL code in parallel.

Auto-Compiler

Auto-Compiler automatically compiles INTEGRAL DSL and Squirrel into bytecode.

When a new INTEGRAL job is requested, INTEGRAL Server automatically compiles^* the corresponding INTEGRAL DSL code into bytecode. If desired, the bytecode can remain in the cache for a specific amount of time so that subsequent requests can be served even faster.

^*Auto-Compiler is available in Professional Edition only. Standard Edition always interprets INTEGRAL DSL code.

On-The-Fly Compression

INTEGRAL Web Server can compress static or dynamic output on the fly.

INTEGRAL Web Server can be set up to automatically compress certain file types. This works for both static files and dynamically generated output. On-the-fly compression can dramatically enhance the delivery of files such as HTML, CSS, SVG, BMP or JS. For example, by compressing SVG images you can typically reduce their size 10 or more times.

Output Caching

Dynamic output can also be cached for a predetermined amount of time, if needed.

Both the dynamic output cache (output of compiled INTEGRAL DSL programs) and the bytecode cache (compiled INTEGRAL DSL programs themselves) can be configured to expire immediately or remain valid for a predetermined amount of time. The cache expiration policy can be specified on a website basis, request type basis (GET or POST) and, finally, individual URL basis.

For example, if something changes often, you can cache it for a short amount of time — a second or two perhaps. If it changes less frequently, you can cache it for a longer amount of time — maybe even a day or two.

This unique built-in feature is one of the reasons INTEGRAL Web Server is so flexible and fast, even under heavy workloads.
